Corrections Policy

We are committed to accuracy, and we know that even careful work contains errors. This policy explains how to report an error and what happens once you do.

How to report an error

The fastest way to report an error is to email [email protected] with:

  • The URL of the page containing the error (e.g. /reviews/moby-dick/).
  • What you believe is wrong, and the correct information if you know it.
  • (Ideally) your source, such as the page number and edition of the text, or the reference you are relying on.

You may also report errors through the contact details published on the relevant page.

What we do with your report

  1. Acknowledge — we confirm receipt, usually within a few business days.
  2. Investigate — we check the claim against the primary text or a reliable reference.
  3. Correct — if confirmed, we fix the error in the relevant article or page.
  4. Acknowledge — for substantive factual corrections, we note the correction so that readers who saw the earlier version are not misled.

Types of correction

  • Confirmed factual errors (wrong dates, misquotes, incorrect plot facts) are corrected promptly and acknowledged.
  • Clerical errors (typos, formatting) are corrected as they are found.
  • Interpretation differences — where a reader disagrees with our analysis or interpretation rather than our facts, we review the argument on its merits. We may adjust the wording, add the alternative view, or, where we stand by our position, explain why.

Corrections to history or quotations

Because several of our pages reproduce historical reviews and quoted primary material, we are especially careful with quotations. If we have misquoted or mistranscribed a primary source, we correct it exactly and note the correction, since quotations carry particular weight.

Version history

Content on this site is versioned, so a documented correction leaves an audit trail. If you would like to see what changed in a specific article, contact us and we will point you to the relevant revision.
